“I love that Malazan exists.” —Brandon Sanderson

“Erikson is a master of lost and forgotten epochs, a weaver of ancient epics.” —Salon

“Tolkien might have made the most authentic feeling fantasy or sci-fi world I have encountered, but Erikson is the only writer who can compare.” —The Guardian

“Erikson's worldbuilding is literally astounding.” —The Guardian

“Malazan Book of the Fallen features some of my favourite characters in fantasy literature.” —Grimdark Magazine

“I stand slack-jawed in awe of The Malazan Book of the Fallen. This masterwork of imagination may be the high water mark of epic fantasy.” —Glen Cook

“Steven Erikson afflicts me with awe. Vast in scope, almost frighteningly fecund in imagination, and rich in sympathy, his work does something that only the rarest of books can manage: it alters the reader's perceptions of reality. ” —Stephen R. Donaldson

"This is a complex story, with rich characters and novel take on fantasy world creation"

Olive P. (5/5)

Best book series I have ever read

"Bought this recently for a friend. Just completed the 10th and final book on the series myself. By far the best story I have ever heard, amazing character development, mysterious magic system, amazing philosophy. Its a bit of a slow start, but at LEAST give it until book 3. You will know gor sure whether or not this is for you, abd if it is, prepare for the most wild series of all time."

Cdub (5/5)

Extremely Slept On

"One of the best epic fantasies I’ve ever read. It competes with LotR and Dune in world building, and with GoT in character building. It introduces about 20 POV characters throughout the book and manages to make each of them interesting and unique while also having complex plot lines that intertwine beautifully. Also the way that Erickson writes is greatly inspired by his early career writing and pitching screenplays. This manifests in a writing style where each chapter is played out in scenes. This both makes the story easy to follow and I think easier to visualize. Some readers may not like the fact that there is zero exposition - and I mean NONE - throughout the book. This may make it harder for some readers to understand what’s happening in some of the more subtle scenes."

Wild read that has kept me nervous the whole time

"Not done this yet but am so in love with it! This is a WILD read that can't possibly end well for everyone but I'm hooked."

Brigid (5/5)

Fantastic Fantasy

"I absolutely love this series! After reading it many years ago I decided to purchase Gardens of the Moon for a reread. Steven Erikson builds worlds like no other author. Erikson really respects the audience, and the way he writes really shows that - he doesn’t coddle the audience. You’re thrown into this amazing world, and you’re compelled to keep going by the rich storytelling that spans across the whole series. Once you start, you’ll be hooked. The price also helped. With so many books in the series, having them at an affordable price makes it an easy choice."

Epic Fantasy

"Deep epic fantasy, the start of a great series. Be warned the author doesn’t hold your hand, he jumps right in to the story and you’re dragged along at breakneck pace."

Roxamos (5/5)

Malazan Journey

"Excited to go through my Malazan journey for the first time."

Book N. (4/5)

Big world

"It’s a huge and incredible world the author is creating here. The politics were a little tedious but it felt like the foundation of something good to come."
