The master of manga horror, Junji Ito

"Great manga. Junji Ito is a master at his craft, making the terrifying pages feel real. Love it"

Elo F. (4/5)

I would recommend reading

"I would recommend reading it all in one sitting as there are some plot twists throughout the stories. It does jump all over the place but comes together at the end."

ReaderOfNovels (4/5)

junji dissolving

"one of my favourite stories so far! lots of melting and continued little stories."

Leckaa (5/5)

Love love love Junji Ito

"The story flowed well. They are seperate short stories but they all connect. I loved the detailed horror images. Lowkey got jump scared at some points."

Big Z. (5/5)

Solid

"Not one of junji ito’s best, but I still enjoyed reading it the whole way through. It’s a nice shorter read."

Theodore (3/5)

Gory Goodness

"You'll love this manga if you like gore! It is disgusting and wonderful."

Taylor (5/5)

Pretty Enjoyable

"The story is a little ridiculous when the premise involves a kid who melts people when he apologizes to them because he's a Satanic worshipper BUT, if you look passed that, the book does its job of creeping you out. Junji Ito continues to be the master of the page turn with his creepy illustrations."

Amanda (4/5)

Very gory

"Very intriguing and disturbing, recommended for horror fans."

Corey (4/5)

More Political Than Previous Works

"Junji Ito isn't known for his depth of characters, but I found Yuuma to be the least believable of protagonists. His story and tone constantly changes, while Chizumi's purpose seems only to be a soapbox for detailing how Yuuma's powers work in each particular chapter, and though the point may be that both siblings are constantly lying, the reader doesn't ever get a base of character. The body horror and psychological horror are still top notch, but the plots and topics may be lost on Western readers who aren't familiar with Japanese politics or current cultural events."

Alison (3/5)

ok

"Not the most interesting or creepy story I've read of his. I was not particularly invested or intrigued about the plot or the characters. The body horror/illustration element was handled well but that's about it. I only read it yesterday and have already forgotten a lot. Not his most memorable work."

Born in 1963 in Gifu, Junji Ito is the face of Japanese horror. While others came before him, providing well received and recognized inspiration such as Kazuo Umezzu and Hideshi Hino, it was not until Ito broke into the scene that the world truly took notice of the visual and comedic terror that is J-Horror.

Most of Ito's works feature grotesque imagery of human fetishes and obsessions. Since his debut, Ito has penned more than 20 properties, most of them being short story anthologies commonly read within Japan's horror fandom.
