What is the tax break?

The Government of Canada has mandated that the GST/HST be fully and temporarily relieved on holiday essentials, such as groceries, restaurant meals, drinks, snacks, children’s clothing, and gifts, from Saturday, December 14, 2024, to Saturday, February 15, 2025.

What items are eligible for the tax break?

At Indigo, the tax break applies to books (except coloring books), toys and puzzles, gourmet food items, Baby & Kids’ apparel, and newspapers. It does not apply to magazines, journals, calendars, agendas, and adult apparel.

Will the tax break apply to in-store and online purchases?

Yes, the tax break applies to both in-store and online purchases of eligible items.

How will the tax break be applied?

For orders placed on indigo.ca, please note that we only charge customers at the time of shipment. You will be charged whatever tax is appropriate at the time that your order ships. Whether your order was placed before tax break to ship during that time, or during the tax break but shipping after (e.g. a pre-order).

Are there any limits on the amount of purchases that qualify for the tax break?

No, there are no limits on the amount of qualifying purchases.

Can I get the tax break on previous purchases made before December 14?

No, the tax break cannot be applied to purchases made before December 14th purchases if they have already shipped or you purchased them in one of our stores.
